About Del Mar California

California is of course full of beautiful places to visit and fun things to do, but Del Mar, CA is one of the most beautiful cities in California. Del Mar is home to some of the most wondrous beaches, and some of the best surfing, in the world, and visitors come from all over the world to surf these sparkling waters.

Del Mar Beaches

Anytime is a great time to visit Del Mar, but the autumn season is particularly attractive for a number of reasons, including fewer crowds and lower prices. During the busy summer months, which typically run from the middle of June until just after Labor Day, the beaches of Del Mar can be quite crowded. The fall season however is typically less crowded and less expensive.

There are many great attractions in Del Mar, California, but perhaps the most famous is the Del Mar racetrack. This thoroughbred racetrack is famous throughout the world, with a season that typically begins in the middle of July and runs through early September.

While those who plan to visit Del Mar in the fall can typically find hotels and motels at short notice, those who plan to visit during the busy
summer months should be sure to book well in advance. Many area hotels and motels in Del Mar are booked solid for the entire summer, and prices can be quite high. In addition, many of the restaurants in the Del Mar area have long waits during the summer, while in the fall the crowds dissipate and the lines largely disappear.

Those who plan to visit the Del Mar area may want to look into renting a home at the beach instead of just a hotel room. There are a great many of these beach rentals available, and the prices can be quite competitive, especially if several people go in on the rental.

For those who want to be pampered and stay in style, Del Mar is home to a number of magnificent resorts, including the famous L’Auberge. Those who love fine dining can find it in abundance as well, as the Del Mar region is home to a large number of fine restaurants, from upscale steakhouses to restaurants featuring that fabulous California seafood.

The autumn temperatures in the Del Mar region are quite pleasant for a day or a week at the beach, with water temperatures remaining in the high 60’s or low 70’s.

The fall season is also known for its great surfing, as the swells come up from the south and provide excellent wave action. Many of these waves may have originated with hurricanes and tropical storms halfway around the world, and by the time they crash on shore they are a treat for those who love to surf.

Getting to Del Mar from elsewhere in Southern California is a relatively easy process. Del Mar is located just 90 miles south of Los Angeles, and just about 20 miles north of San Diego. Del Mar is also easy to reach by train, with both national Amtrak and the locally run Coaster rail line serving the city. It is easy to fly into San Diego, take the local bus to the Coaster station and head right out to Del Mar for some fun, sun and surf.
