This thoroughbred racetrack is famous throughout the world, with a season that typically begins in the middle of July and runs through early September. There are a great many of these beach rentals available, and the prices can be quite competitive, especially if several people go in on the rental. For those who want to be pampered and stay in style, Del Mar is home to a number of magnificent resorts, including the famous L’Auberge. Those who love fine dining can find it in abundance as well, as the Del Mar region is home to a large number of fine restaurants, from upscale steakhouses to restaurants featuring that fabulous California seafood. The autumn temperatures in the Del Mar region are quite pleasant for a day or a week at the beach, with water temperatures remaining in the high 60’s or low 70’s. The fall season is also known for its great surfing, as the swells come up from the south and provide excellent wave action. Many of these waves may have originated with hurricanes and tropical storms halfway around the world, and by the time they crash on shore they are a treat for those who love to surf. Getting to Del Mar from elsewhere in Southern California is a relatively easy process. Del Mar is located just 90 miles south of Los Angeles, and just about 20 miles north of San Diego. Del Mar is also easy to reach by train, with both national Amtrak and the locally run Coaster rail line serving the city. It is easy to fly into San Diego, take the local bus to the Coaster station and head right out to Del Mar for some fun, sun and surf. |
